About Yield

One consultant. Thirty years. One methodology built from the inside out.

Yield Hospitality Advisory is not a consultancy with a bench of generalists. It is Christopher Shannon — one auditor who has spent three decades inside the operations, kitchens, and management structures of the venues he now audits.

Christopher Shannon

Founder + Principal Auditor · Yield Hospitality Advisory

The Heretic on the Hill Pty Ltd · ABN 55 621 800 557

Christopher Shannon has worked in hospitality for more than thirty years — not in an advisory or sales capacity, but inside the operations. Hotels, high-volume restaurants, multi-site management, contract catering, and executive operations roles across the industry.

He has been the person setting the menu. The person building the roster. The person holding the food cost conversation at the end of a difficult month. The person who had to tell an owner that what they believed was happening in their venue was not what the team or the data was showing.

Yield is the framework built from that experience.

It is not adapted from a generic business improvement model. It was designed specifically for independent operators — the venues that don't have a head office, a performance team, or an internal reporting function.

The 100-criterion audit framework, the Triangulation Engine, and the seven Sharpen implementation modules are the tools Christopher wished existed when he was sitting on the other side of the table.

What thirty years looks like in practice

The experience is not theoretical.

Christopher's operational background covers roles from kitchen hand to executive management. The range is deliberate — it means the audit sees the venue from every position simultaneously.

Hotels and convention centres
Large-scale food and beverage operations, multi-outlet management, and high-volume event catering at executive level
Restaurant and café operations
Front and back of house, menu development, cost control, and team management across independent venues
Multi-site management
Overseeing operational consistency across multiple venues — the exact gap the Sharpen program is designed to address
Contract catering and institutional
High-compliance environments where process, documentation, and standard operating procedures are non-negotiable
Consulting and advisory
Working with independent operators to fix the operational and financial gaps that accumulate when a venue runs on instinct rather than data
The Yield Framework

The Audit is not an opinion. It is a process.

Every Yield engagement follows the same structured methodology — regardless of venue type, size, or complexity.

1

The Yield Score

100 criteria scored 1–10 across 7 operational domains. The composite /1000 score is calculated using the Triangulation Engine — a weighted formula that cross-references the auditor's walkthrough, the owner's self-assessment, team input, and the gap between perception and observation.

2

The Triangulation Engine

The engine that prevents the Audit from being a one-dimensional assessment. Four data sources are weighted: Walkthrough (40%), Owner Flag (20%), Team Flag (25%), Perception Gap (15%). The output is a Priority Index for each domain — not just a list of findings, but a ranked sequence of what to fix first.

3

The Sharpen Modules

Seven implementation modules built to address the seven domains. Each one is a co-built working session — Christopher and the operator build the tool together in the room. The output is not a report. It is a working system.

4

The Edge Retainer

Ongoing monthly advisory for operators who want continuous performance visibility after implementation. The baseline is the Audit score. The work is always measured against it.

What working with Yield looks like

Christopher takes a limited number of audit clients per month — the capacity is one audit per week maximum. This is deliberate. A Yield Audit is not a template exercise that can be delegated or rushed.

What you can expect:
A 20-minute discovery call to confirm fit before any engagement is agreed
Christopher conducts every walkthrough — no associates, no sub-contractors
The debrief is a 70-minute working conversation, not a slide presentation
Every engagement is documented and managed through a structured pipeline — you will always know where things stand
What Yield is not:
A hospitality recruitment firm
A venue management service
A mystery dining or mystery shopping provider
A training company
A general business coach

The conversation starts with a call.

Twenty minutes. Christopher will confirm whether Yield is the right fit for your venue, and what the starting point looks like.
